A trio of leading indie publishers, True Magazine, Narratively and Jungles in Paris, goes offline for an eclectic, in-the-moment summer evening of storytelling, film, live music, dancing, food, drink and chance encounters.
Saturday, July 23, 2016 at 5:00 PM – Sunday, July 24, 2016 at 12:00 AM. Tickets here.
The massive ho-down will take place on the beautiful, sweeping property of one of our True Lodges — the Kaaterskill, in Catskill, NY. We’ll have a cookout, bonfire, short doc fest, official barn dance, stargazing and more.
We even have our own caller. Think you can keep up?
As the nobles of England and France waltzed around ballrooms in top hats and gowns centuries ago, the servants of the manor-born protested out in the barns, revolutionizing a swinging, upbeat, more spirited form of dance.
After the Revolutionary War, the colonists and their descendants upped the celebration by introducing a caller, a cross between a drill sergeant and beat poet. This singsong emcee instructs the group on how to move to the music and with each other.
Also included: A secret, 35-foot waterfall we plan on swimming under the morning after. Is she safe to jump? You’ll have to make the trek with us upstate to find out.
And, you’ll get to hang out with Frederick, an intense and proud turkey, along with a crew of other exotic animals at the farm.
